Introducing Finding Your Identity in Nature: A New Eco-Art Therapy Guide
I’m so excited to share a project that has been close to my heart for a long time—my new book, Finding Your Identity in Nature: An Eco-Art Therapy Workshop Guide for Art Therapists.
This book grew out of years of working alongside individuals and communities in nature-based, creative spaces. Again and again, I’ve witnessed how art and the natural world can work together to support healing, self-discovery, and emotional regulation. This guide brings that lived experience together with evidence-informed practice into one accessible, practical resource.
A Guided Journey into Eco-Art Therapy
Finding Your Identity in Nature invites readers into eco-art therapy as both a therapeutic approach and a way of being in relationship with the land. Nature is not just a backdrop—it becomes an active partner in the creative and reflective process.
Through carefully designed, step-by-step frameworks and adaptable activities, this book supports participants in:
Deepening self-awareness
Exploring personal identity
Strengthening emotional regulation
Cultivating creative confidence
Building meaningful connections with the natural world
Each activity is grounded in therapeutic principles and designed to be implemented safely and ethically under the guidance of a qualified professional.
Designed for Inclusive, Trauma-Informed Practice
At the heart of this guide is a commitment to inclusivity, accessibility, and trauma-informed care. Every individual comes into therapeutic spaces with unique experiences, strengths, and needs. This book honours that diversity.
Facilitators are equipped with practical tools to:
Adapt activities for different abilities and learning styles
Create emotionally safe and supportive environments
Foster reflection and resilience
Encourage authentic self-expression
Support participants at their own pace
Rather than focusing on outcomes or “perfect” art, the emphasis remains on process, presence, and personal meaning.
Nature as a Source of Grounding and Healing
In our increasingly fast-paced and disconnected world, many people are longing for grounding and reconnection. Eco-art therapy offers a powerful pathway back to ourselves through the rhythms, textures, and wisdom of the natural environment.
Participants are encouraged to engage with nature as:
A source of regulation and calm
A mirror for inner experience
A place of curiosity and wonder
A foundation for creative exploration
A partner in healing
This approach supports not only emotional wellbeing, but also a deeper sense of belonging and integration.
A Resource and a Companion
This book is designed to serve as both:
A professional resource for art therapists and facilitators
A reflective companion for ongoing learning and growth
Whether you are leading group workshops, working one-on-one, or developing eco-arts programming, this guide offers adaptable frameworks you can return to again and again.
Empowering Creative Potential
Ultimately, Finding Your Identity in Nature is about empowerment.
It is about supporting participants in discovering their own voices, strengthening their sense of self, and recognizing their creative capacity. Through intentional engagement with art and nature, individuals are invited to build resilience, confidence, and a more integrated sense of identity.
With Gratitude
I am deeply grateful to the many participants, colleagues, mentors, and communities who have shaped this work. Your stories, insights, and courage continue to inspire me.
If you are passionate about creative healing, inclusive practice, and the transformative power of nature, I hope this book becomes a meaningful part of your journey.
Thank you for walking this path with me.
With warmth,Farrell Elliott
